THE Port Moresby Women’s Softball Association pitches off its 2021 season tomorrow under its “fully loaded” concept to revive interest for the sport.
Association president Ian Soweni said the concept was introduced to get women back onto the diamond after a cancelled year of competition due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“So far, only seven of the 10 clubs who participated in last season’s competition have shown interest to play with Yokomo and Saints not taking part,” he said. “Yokomo, due to the Covid-19 and the safety of their players, have decided not to play but the competition will run for nine weekends with 10 teams taking part.
“The clubs taking part are last season’s champions United Sisters, Bears, Gazelle, Wantoks, Stingerz, Chebu, and Aviat Jets.
“All clubs are putting in one team with Bears and Gazelle putting in two teams for the fully loaded softball competition.”
