HEALTH Minister Jelta Wong says the Government will ensure that ambulance services continue to operate without any interruption at districts
“St John Ambulance complains a lot, but we are responsive and supportive of its services,” he said.
Wong was responding to The National’s questions on why the St John was not receiving consistent funding from the Government yearly to support the operation of free ambulance service.
According to a report last week, in 2018, St John responded to 7,039 emergencies, which increased to 11,432 last year after it extended its operations from the National Capital District to Central, East New Britain, Morobe and Chimbu.
However, the national funding to St John had decreased by more than 50 per cent at a time it was needed the most.
