Woodlark Mining Ltd thanked the Government team for initiating the awareness drive in Woodlark communities last week.

The team was on the island to educate landowners of Woodlark on issues concerning the pre-development forum and negotiations of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) expected to take place in the near future.

The company’s site manager Kevin Neate said the awareness exercise by the government gave security, direction and assurance to the landowners and communities.

This assures that their government was committed to the pre-development and MoA processes.

“It ensures that the people have a full understanding of the MoA and the development forum process,” Neate said.

He said the government’s initiative also complemented the company’s community awareness programmes, adding that the government’s involvement would be appreciated by the people.

The team led by the Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) include representatives from the departments of Treasury, Labour and Industrial Relations, Environment and Conservation (DEC), Petromin, Milne Bay Provincial Government and State Solicitors Office.

The pre-development forum would be held in light of an application for a mining licence which Woodlark Mining has applied for.
