Woods wins big gun

HONDA rider Mal Woods piloted his XR 400 to a healthy win over the weekend as the Port Moresby Motorcycle Club held round 1 of the Big Gun Enduro near the disused Basilisks Gun Battery.
Woods celebrated his birthday with a win over the Kawasaki mounted Max Beagrie and last year’s winner and Yamaha stalwart Jason James.
With a tight field of nine riders waved off at the 10:30 start, the riders tore onto the overgrown and rock strewn track, as the day wore on, the heat became a major player in physical endurance.
First time Enduro competitor Neil “The Yarpi” Papenfus described the event as “brutal” although he  managed a credible 12 laps in the two-hour event.
Port Moresby Motorcycle Club president Peter Jackson said it was a very arduous event yet a great start to this year’s off road racing calendar.
The next event will be near Brown River, details of which will appear in The National as they are available.
For those interested, the Port Moresby Motorcycle Club meets most Thursday evenings at the South Pacific Motor Sports Club.
