CHIMBU is preparing to receive a resident National Court judge next year.
The former official residence of the governor on Premiers Hill has been refurbished to accommodate the resident judge.
A preliminary visit by judicial services secretary Ronald Silovo to Kundiawa last Thursday confirmed that work was in advanced stages.
Chimbu administrator Joe Kunda and provincial police commander Supt Joseph Tondop briefed Silovo and showed him the ground preparations for the resident judge and his staff.
Silovo was impressed with the preparation and vowed to ensure the necessary formalities were done to get the judge to be based in Kundiawa in January.
The Chimbu government would also consider securing other houses for the judge’s support staff.
The arrangement stemmed from a directive by Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia following a request by Chimbu Governor Fr John Garia.
Kunda thanked Sir Salamo for confirming the placement of a resident judge in Kundiawa, adding that it would help to clear the backlog of National Court cases.
