ROAD work on the Independence Drive from the University of Technology to Bumayong in Lae is ahead of schedule, says JV PNG Investment Construction Ltd project manager Francis Martin.
Martin told The National that work on the road had been progressing very well although recent rain slowed work down a bit.
“We are on schedule but progress on the main slab had been delayed by the bad weather in June,” Martin said.
“So far 75-80 per cent of the project had been completed and now it’s just the main slab and the street lights that we will work on.
Street lights will be installed at the end of this month awaiting the shipment to arrive so we can start putting them up.
“Also included is the bus shelter and space and there is couple of variations that we need.”
He expects that by September, 80 per cent of the road will be opened to traffic.

  • Long awaited problem which have affected citizens who excess this road everyday. Now it is good news to hear and see this headach going off our mind.

  • “ROAD work on the Independence Drive from the University of Technology to Bumayong in Lae” I would like to correct the reporter ‘Larry Andrew’, the road maintenance stops at Ten City Police Station where the Momase Regional Mobile Squad is located and not Bumayong as mention.
As former resident of Bumayong and a frequent traveller on this road, it would be great if adequate funding is made available for JV PNG Investment Construction Ltd to complete the maintenance of the road from Ten City Police Station to Bumayong and the Bumayong back road (Casa, LBM to Second Seven Bump) then this ring road will totally be complete.
    Miss leading report nabout stopim.
Leaders look into this and put money or secure fundings na fully completim displa rot gud.

  • That Bumayong Road has been overlooked for a long time over the years, being a former student of Bumayong Lutheran Secondary School; dust sa karamapim olgeta man-meri time ol wokabaut lo rot. It poses respiratory (health) risks to travelers also. Wanem time now ba yumi start lukluk lo displa road blo yumi na traim lo improvim? Gavman blo Morobe Province need lo lukluk lo displa, provide funding na kain samting osem.
