Work starts on 3km road reconstruction in Lae

THE Government through the Works Department has funded the upgrading of 3km of the Unigate-Bumayong Road in Lae.
Lae MP John Rosso told The National yesterday that the contract for the reconstruction was awarded to JVPNG Ltd and work had started.
Rosso said he was not privy to the details of the funding arrangements.
“The work is supervised by the DoW,” Rosso said.
“Details about the contract are with the DoW Lae manager.
Rosso said the road would undergo initial upgrading followed by sealing and construction of proper drainage systems.
He said that particular stretch of the road was neglected for the last 10 years and it was a relief for residents that it was now being fixed.
He said beside this road, the district has spent around K500,000 to fix certain deteriorated road sections in the city.
The Unigate-Bumayong Road is the only major road in Lae yet to be sealed.
