WORK has finally begun on the Erima Road in Madang to serve more than 20,000 people from the Astrolabe LLG in Rai Coast.
Rai Coast MP James Gau engaged Sun Moon Star Design and Engineering Company to construct the Yowor and Minjeng bridges.
It started working on the road two weeks ago and has completed 60% of the work.
Company manager Chris Choi said the company had no choice but to fix the road because it was using it to reach the two bridges.
“The road was deteriorated with deep ditches in many sections of the road,” Choi said.
He said they used their own machinery, labour and gravel.
He said the Works Department in Madang lacked funding to fix the road.
“You can’t just drive along a rugged muddy road and all of a sudden you appear on new shiny looking bridge. It doesn’t make sense,” Choi said.
Steven Robin who frequently travels on that road thanked the company for fixing it.
“It is one of the worst roads in Madang and I thank SMS,” Robin said.
