Workboat to service Nawaeb people

THE people of Nawaeb district in Morobe province now have transport they can rely on to travel and move their goods to the market.
Local MP Timothy Bonga recently bought a workboat to alleviate the problem they have had for more than 15 years.
The workboat cost nearly K1 million.
It is versatile, can take up to 50 passengers with cargo, and can do up to 20 knots.
It was bought from the district support improvement programme (DSIP) funds made available to the electorate by the Government.
Works and Transport Minister Peter O’Neill was in Lae early this month to launch the boat.
“This is a good initiative to develop transport infrastructure in the rural areas. “That is the intention of the DSIP and you will benefit a lot from this boat,” Mr O’Neill said during the launch.
Mr O’Neill, a strong advocate of the DSIP and rural development, said the majority of PNG’s population live in the rural areas and this should be the focus of the Government.
“Under DSIP, the Government is channeling a lot of resources direct to villages and the rural areas,” he said.
