Working together with partners seen as way to go forward

COLLABORATION and partnership is the way forward for the development of the electrification process in the country, the petroleum and energy summit has been told.
Maira Pulayasi, director of strategy and innovations at PNG Power Ltd, said it was important to do things together. “In the integrated approach, there must be a common understanding among all parties,” he said.
“You have to have good working good partners.
“The most sustainable part now in electrifying the country is doing it together.
“The learning path is shorter, simply because we can learn from each other. We don’t need to invent anything new. As a country, the energy sector can be improved simply by rethinking the process.
“We can do a system-view approach, where stakeholders can punch from every corner.”
Pulayasi said PNG Power acting managing director Carolyn Blacklock had said this year that 30,000 households should be connected to electricity, despite the sceptics.
“The answer is the partners are in the country who can inject funding into developing the industry,” he said.
“We can utilise the expertise and efficiencies of the big companies and their corporate procurement process, and backed by local contractors, to electrify the country.
“The issue was: we had been waiting for PNG Power to have the capacity to do. The times are different, the players are here.”
