Working together … Wakon villagers in Takia LLG in Karkar district have constructed three classrooms and two teachers’ quarters at a cost of K60,000, which were raised by themselves. They came up with different fundraising activities and helped construct the community school. The villagers contributed in skills during the construction of the houses, classrooms and pit toilets. The enthusiasm and co-operation by the locals was because their children had missed out on basic early education for the last six years. There was no school to cater for the children. The sacrifices of the Wakon villagers are to see their children get educated at an early age. Those who missed out in the last six years could also return to school.
