Works needs K2mil for Morobe highway
By JIMMY KALEBE
THE Works Department needs more than K2 million to upgrade the highway from Menyamya to Aseki in Morobe to allow the transportation of goods and services between Lae and Bulolo.
If completed, that road could then be connected to Port Moresby.
Works division staff in Lae have fixed 33 per cent of the road from the Hidden Valley junction to Mini village in the Watut local level government area in Bulolo.
The K500,000 funding for the upgrading was made available by Works Minister Michael Nali last year.
Work began in January.
Northern Regional Works manager Brian Alois said they needed more than K2 million to complete the work from Aseki to Menyamya.
He could not say when the funding would be made available as the government had other priorities.
“What the Works Department wants to see is that transportation of people, goods and services must not be affected and the up-grading has to reach as many people as possible,” he said.
He said the Menyamya-Aseki road could connect to Port Moresby.
Watut local level government patrol officer Michael Kokombio said it was a relief to see the government carrying out maintenance on their road.
