Worse than animals

Letters, Normal

I WANT to express my displeasure over the rape of an Australian youth ambassador as reported in The National (“Aussie youth envoy raped in Madang”, Nov 16).
When are we going to learn to respect one another?
I cannot understand why a minority of Papua New Guineans must spoil the country’s good name.
There are many Papua New Guineans all over the world flying our flag high and such barbaric act is an insult to them.
Hilda Wayne Laka, a Papua New Guinean said: “If I had a PNG flag at my front yard, I would go out right now and take it down in shame.
“Disgusting people who do not deserve to be called Papua New Guineans need not to live among us.”
As a Papua New Guinean living overseas, such inhuman acts embarrass me and others greatly.
I don’t know what to tell my friends.
Every step we take to promote PNG and allowing volunteers to work and live among us, we go back 10 steps because of some brainless people who cannot control themselves.
It is mandatory now to implement the death penalty as those who do not respect human life do not deserve to walk among us.
Many kind-hearted people from other countries come to help us to improve our standard of living and is this how we show our appreciation?
Our society does not need these people who are worse than animals.
They show no respect for others and go all out to harm fellow human beings, regardless of where these people come from.
What is the government doing to such people?
Seriously, what is the government’s approach to reduce and eventually curb such heinous acts?
Do we have leaders who see, smell, touch and feel the danger which is prevalent not only in Madang but in most urban centres in Papua New Guinea?
These are some questions that I will continue to pose when I read and hear about the violence acts against womenfolk and, more so on volunteers, in a country that I so dearly love.
People who harm fellow humans need to be penalised for their cruel behaviours.
They should be wiped out from the face of PNG and the world.
