Papua New Guinea white tea recently won gold in the 2018 Australian international tea expo in Melbourne.
The WR Carpenter Estates, with their teas manufactured in Minjigina, in Western Highlands, participated in the Australian international tea expo.
The company won gold in the white tea, single origin category with an overall best in that segment and bronze in the green tea, worldwide category.
Country manager John Mangos said that it was the first international recognition for PNG tea and had “boosted the morale of our entire family at WR Carpenter Estates and is a reason for the country to be proud”.
“The awards are a welcome boost for the company’s aspiration to bring PNG teas to countries like Australia and New Zealand,” he said.
The idea behind Carpenter’s participation in such an event was to give international exposure and recognition to its quality products marketed in PNG, Fiji and many other Pacific countries under its National No.1 Tea brand.
The competition was held from Sept 10-12 and had global representation with over 500 entries in 36 categories.
The awards justified the company’s confidence in its products.
At 1850 metres above sea level, WR Carpenter’s Minjigina estate near Mt Hagen is an ideal place with the right type of climate and elevation that give its products the unique characters of high-grown teas.
