Wrong move by Hunters coach

Letters

Hunters coach Matthew Church was wrong to drop Norman Brown and Brendon Gotuno from the train-on squad over their fitness as reported in The National (Friday, Nov 26 – Back page).
The coach failed to understand that this is just a pre-season training and the proper season has not begun yet.
Church also failed to understand that the players had a long break after the last season ended and they are yet to catch up with their fitness and their bodies are still getting used to the pre-season training used to assess players’ fitness.
He should have considered that not automatically drop them.
I have witnessed, as well as many supporters and fans, that Brown’s and Gotuno’s performance during the Intrust Cup was of high quality.
Such players do not deserve to be dropped from train-on squad when the proper season has not even started yet.
Your replacement to Brown and Gotunu will take time to meet the standard and performance of these two.
It would be pity to have amateurs replacing experienced and performing players.
The coach and his assistants must reconsider as proper season has not yet stated.
2022 is next year.
Why drop the most experienced and performing players who have just returned from break while telling them you’re not fairing well enough and are training below standard?
