Wrong to evict settlers

LAE Mayor James Khay is a hero in the eyes of settlers residing in the city, especially those at Javani Tais and 2-Mile’s Zero and One Block.

We find the lands department corrupt, giving land to investors without consulting with landowners or long-time residents.

It is shameful to see our own people cheating us.

Papua New Guineans running national and provincial governments must respect their fellow citizens and do the right thing by providing alternatives before evicting the settlers.

Most have lived in these settlements for decades as the government failed to provide housing for them.

Settlers pay taxes and contribute to the economy too.

People in settlements are not animals and should not be treated as such.

Khay should form an alliance to address this issue as it is not the first time settlers are being evicted.

I am not against development but the government should put its people first.
