X-RAY services at New Ireland’s Kavieng General Hospital have been closed for an indefinite period after heavy rain flooded the building.
Water reportedly inundated the main corridor and the reception area of the building.
The rain water had drenched cables in the x-ray laboratory, posing a greater risk to people trying to get help at a facility that is supposed to be providing medical relief.
Since the weekend, staff had been involved in mopping up excess water at the hospital.
The compartment that houses the x-ray department was heavily drenched by rain coming through the roof.
All staff can only hope for the hospital’s maintenance team to carry out repairs and for the x-ray equipment to be checked.
The hospital management said it had been an ongoing problem for some time now.
The hospital confirmed that it was running short of drugs such as  amoxicillin, panadol and anti-malarial tablets.
This followed the burning down
of the Rabaul Medical Store last month.
The hospital had sought help from major companies in the province.
