THE announcement of approved increases in performances-based contract allowances for all senior officers yesterday was given the thumbs up by the NCD Chief Commander Supt Fred Yakasa.
He said the timely announcement made during the signing of the memorandum of agreement on salaries and allowances (2008-10) between the Police Association and the police commissioner at the headquarters in Port Moresby yesterday, should get “some” senior officers who often lazed about without performing their roles to now perform accordingly.
He also acknowledged and commended the Government for its recognition into the police force, adding that in the National Capital District, bad behaviour would not be tolerated.
He also cautioned officers to be careful with their performance.
While describing the MoA as a good agreement, he said officers should now give total commitment, dedication and loyalty to serving the force.
Police Commissioner Gari Baki, while signing the MoA, urged members of the constabulary to be aware that they had made and agreement with the Government and people of PNG that “in return for earning so much cash per fortnight, we are going to improve our service delivery to them”.
“We have agreed to become an effective and efficient police service, serving the people of PNG without fear or favour,” Mr Baki said.
