Yama breaches IPO

THE Madang District Court issued a warrant of arrest for Madang Governor Peter Yama two weeks ago over a breach of an interim protection order (IPO) taken out by his first wife whom he left more than 10 years ago.
Agatha Gupuri Yama, of mixed Morobe and Chimbu parentage, was successful in obtaining the order on June 14 after alleging that Yama breached the IPO of May 17.
The complainant said the warrant enabled police to arrest Yama and bring him before the court to answer for breaching the protection order.
The warrant has been issued to the office of the Police commissioner, officer in charge of Madang police and members of the police force.
A court official yesterday said the warrant had been issued and it was now up to the police to execute the order.
Meanwhile, Yama said the warrant had technical faults in it and involved politics.
Yama said his first wife had moved into one of his properties this year and provoked the situation where he was forced to confront and evict her from the property.
“This is my property which I have title over and have been putting it on rent for years,” he said.
Yama said his first wife’s action was politically motivated.
When asked if he was concerned about a social media post and comments about the warrant, he said: “Those are small things, don’t worry it won’t happen.”
