MADANG Governor Peter Yama gave more than K840,000 to two secondary schools, in Madang, on Wednesday to build a classroom and to buy a school truck.
The Divine Mercy Catholic Secondary in North Coast received K350,000 to build a classroom.
Anul High School on Karkar Island, received K350,000 for a classroom and K144,000 for a school truck.
Yama made the commitment when he visited the schools.
Divine Mercy Catholic Secondary principal Marryanne Salamen said the school graduated 120 grade 10 students, who would continue grade 11 next year, and the fund would help to build a new classroom.
“Making commitments as leaders is one thing but fulfilling them is another,” Yama said.
He said public funds rightfully belonged to the people and he was like a manager who delivered the funds to give service to the people.
“You have the right to get what belongs to you.”
Yama said students who attended Anul High School were scattered all over the island and the truck would help transport them to and from the school.
