FORMER Rabaul Guria forward Andickson Yamason is making a fist of his transition to rugby union.
He featured for Royals in their 15-19 loss to University in the premier division of the Capital Rugby Union competition at Bava Park in Port Moresby last Saturday.
Royals coach Edwin Noki told The National last week Yamason had made an immediate impact on his side’s performance since the start of the season in March.
“Andickson brings size and experience to the team, so we are happy to have him,” he said. “He is playing out in the centres.
“He definitely creates opportunities when he is running with the ball and that is what we want from him.
“He played well against University, setting up a try and threatening the opposition when he got the ball.
“If he can play with consistency for the rest of the season then it will be bonus for us.”
But Noki said rugby league was different from rugby union, and Yamason was struggling in certain areas of his game.
“We have a number players of rugby league background who have joined us this season and Andickson is one of them,” Noki said.
“I think they are struggling a bit and are still making the transition.
“Andickson is a quality player and once he gets the hang of it then he will be exciting to watch in rugby union.
“Not only him but the rest of the players of a similar background who are in our team. It’s good for our team. I believe our best is yet to come this the season.”
