WESTERN Australia-based Marengo Mining Ltd is in the process of renewing its two-year exploration licence for its operations at Yandera in Madang province.
Exploration work at Snowpass area for the rapidly developing Yandera copper-molybdenum project is covered by EL1335 with an area of 247sqkm.
“We are currently in the process of renewing the licence for another two years,” the company said.
These developed after a group of people claiming to be Yandera landowners said it was illegal for the company to be carrying out exploration activities at Snowpass since the licence had expired.
But Marengo denied the claim, saying they are operating within the provisions of PNG Mining Act.
The group from Begoru, Karijoko, Mendi, Nombri and Megari areas met recently and discussed the future of Yandera project with Usino-Bundi MP Samson Kuli and long-time Catholic lay missionary Max David.
