Yangoru cop shop attacked

YANGORU police station in East Sepik province was pelted with rocks by opportunists when an argument between supporters of East Sepik Governor Peter Wararu and a group of Karapia villagers turned nasty outside the station last Friday afternoon.
Rocks were hurled at the station which was manned by a lone regular policeman, causing minor damage but no injuries.
The attack on the station by supporters of the governor who was also there, checking on a man from Karapia village who was locked up for damaging Mr Wararu’s vehicle and shouting abuses at its passengers earlier that day.
According to reliable sources, the situation is under control and the governor has taken the lead to iron out their differences and repair damages caused to the police station.
However, East Sepik provincial police commander Insp Charles Parinjo said yesterday he was not aware of the incident.
