FORMER SP PNG Hunter Mackenzie Yei has extended his contract with Central Queensland Capras until the end of 2022 Hostplus Cup season.
The Western Highlander told The National on Monday that his immediate goal was to help his side reach the finals.
“I am excited to continue play for the Capras,” Yei said.
“They have been good to me over the past couple of seasons and for me personally, I really want to help the team finish better than last year and possibly make the finals.
“I want to train hard and play good football week in week out and contribute to the team for better results this year.”
Yei said he had struggled when he first settled in Rockhampton in 2020. However, he said was now enjoying living and playing for the local team.
“It was tough when I first relocated here from PNG but I had patience, I got to know the players, the fans and got used to life down here and now I’m enjoying it.
“The club is treating me well, my teammates are a great bunch of blokes and I am proud to represent the people here and the club.
“We didn’t do as well as expected last year but I am sure everyone in this team wants to see the team improve this year.”
Meanwhile, Yei said he was thrilled to play alongside fellow PNG players Nixon Putt, Jedidiah Simbiken and Zev John.
“Nixon is an 80-minute footballer, we have a special bond because we go all the way back playing for Mt Hagen Eagles,” he said.
“I am happy to play alongside Zev and Jedidiah as well. Playing alongside them gives me confidence and I hope we play well for each other and most importantly try to perform for the club.”
