PORT Moresby’s premier blue water challenge, the Yellowfin competition received a timely boost of K10,000 from Bank South Pacific on Monday.
BSP chief executive officer Ian B Clyne said the bank was happy to support the tournament when presenting the sponsorship to the Port Moresby Game Fishing Club.
Clyne said the country’s leading bank was proud to continue their support for the competition.
He noted that the sport had grown from strength to strength over the years with more anglers rising from this event.
The competition will take place on Feb 18-19 with up to 80 anglers expected to take to the waters off Port Moresby.
The 2012 Yellowfin competition director Russell Kertton, who received the sponsorship, thanked BSP for their continued support which began in 2006.
“There is an increase in participation this year and we are looking forward to an exciting fishing event this month.
“We thank Mr Clyne and BSP and all our sponsors for their support,” he said.
The Port Moresby Game Fishing club has been operating for 40 years and the Yellowfin competition has been running since the mid 1970s.
The Yellowfin competition is Port Moresby’s premier blue water game fishing competition and mostly attracts the attention of Port Moresby-based anglers.
