Gabriel Yer’s bid in court to challenge the Peter O’Neill government for revoking his appointment as finance secretary has been adjourned to Wednesday.
After a brief hearing at the Waigani National Court yesterday, the case was adjourned because his lawyers were yet to serve relevant legal documents to state lawyers.
Presiding judge Justice Derek Hartshorn advised the parties to serve documents and appear before him next week.
Yer was appointed finance secretary by the Somare group but was dismissed a short time later by the O’Neill government.
This forced Yer to seek redress in court.
Yer is the second senior public servant to seek redress in court.
The first was Fred Yakasa, who was appointed by the Somare regime as police commissioner but that appointment too was later revoked by the
O’Neill regime.
Yakasa’s case has also been adjourned to next year.
Meanwhile, first legislative counsel Hartshorn Ramatlat also went to court yesterday to seek reinstatement after he was replaced by Vela Konivavo.
His case was adjourned to next week when his lawyers failed to submit relevant court documents to the defending party.
