Leading Yogabatic group, Yu Yet PNG performed live at the Sir John Guise Stadium yesterday to officially launch the logo of International Youth Day that will be staged at the stadium.
National Capital District youth officer and co-chair Rex Buka said the event, based on the theme “Our voice, our choice, our future,” will be held on Aug 21, coinciding with the Teen Awards presentation and the Walk for Life programme.
Buka said the event was aimed at getting youths to register and showcase whatever talents they have, and also learn from the information boots and programmes that would be available.
“Apart from performances, there will be stakeholders invited to come and set up information boots for our young people to learn and access  new information, so they can be part of whatever services available,” Buka said.
The theme of the event focuses on creating awareness on the issues affecting youths around the world by highlighting the roles of youth and the impact they can make on the global society.
“The theme is a strong statement about giving our youths hope and the challenge to step up and use their voices to make positive choices to build a positive future for themselves and the country,” Safe Motherhood PNG representative Lavinia Mul said. Youths from the Yogabatic group commended the organisers and thanked them for giving them the opportunity to showcase their talent in the coming event. Many of them are unemployed and yoga keeps them occupied. The youth day programme will begin with a Walk for life with Governor Powes Parkop starting at Ela Beach amphitheatre at 5am and ending at the stadium at 7am. The day’s events ends at 2pm.
