Yonki Toe of dam project hailed a success

THE new Yonki Toe of dam project at Arona valley has been hailed a success after bringing together engineers and consultants from 13 countries to work with locals in completing it.

Akio Katayama, a Japanese engineer from Nippon Koei, praised the PNG Power Ltd’s Yonki Toe of Dam project as a result of cooperation and teamwork between the overseas specialists and their local counterparts.

Local engineers and people from Arona valley helped in its construction. 

PPL’s manager project delivery Levi Toarino also praised the teamwork during the two and half years of the project.

The experts and workers hailed from Japan, Austria, Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, China, Nepal, Switzerland, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand.

“This project involves nationals from across the world and we faced many difficult situations,” Katayama said.

Toarino said: “I would like to acknowledge the contribution of the local workforce from Arona valley whose commitment and efforts assisted the project in terms of establishing a good understanding and working relationship between locals, outside and overseas workers.”

Locals from Arona valley said they learnt a lot from the engineers and supervisors.
