Yopyyopy, come home with services for the people

BILL Urukapi’s letter about road conditions in Wosera Gawi that desperately need remedy (The National, August 29) clearly represents the voice of the silent majority who are really missing out on basic services delivered by the Government.

The MP, Jerry Yopyyopy, is not even acknowledging the fact that it is the people who gave him the mandate to make informed decisions and promptly deliver services first and foremost, such as the ones mentioned.

First, why was the equipment to kickstart the project withdrawn from the site?

Is it because land compensation issues are being used as excuses?

Yopyyopy should come down to his people’s level and address these issues.

Does he not see that

the people are suffering because services are lacking?

An MP must actively address issues affecting the electorate.

That is what MPs are elected to do.

Second, prior to the development phase, other MPs in the province have been active and creative in initiating development strategies.

They are delivering major projects to meet the needs of their people within a year of taking office.

What about Wosera Gawi’s MP?

Is Yopyyopy still sleeping somewhere in Waigani?

The people living within the vicinity of the service delivery catchment in the district have remained in the back pages of government development plans.

Other development plans cannot be strategically or dynamically implemented until and unless basic services such as roads and bridges exist to keep all other systems such as health, education and the local economy going.

Otherwise, Wosera Gawi will revert back to  colonial era conditions even as other districts in PNG move into the modern era.
