Young man died a hero

Letters

I FEEL for the young man who lost his life protecting his female school mates from Bareji High School in Ijivitari, Northern.
The report in The National last week was sad and a call for the three Northern MPs to return home. This young man took a big gamble – if you are from Popondetta, you know that Bareji High School to Popondetta town is a long way.
To make matters even worse, they left school because they were hungry as the school does not have the money to feed students.
I call this young man a true hero because he stood strong and died for something he knew was right.
That’s sacrifice.
Who should I blame for his death?
This is a development issue.
The law and justice sector is doing their part, however, we really need our three MPs to address some of these issues, i.e building good roads.
All the provincial roads have deteriorated and are not safe for vehicles.
Bareji High School is one of those remote high schools in the province and should have a good road link.
A better road could have saved this young man’s life – they could have gotten onto a PMV instead of walking and avoided any trouble on the way. May his soul rest in eternal peace!

  • Why can’t the so called groups and organizations that are very vocal on violence against women and girls do something about this young man who lost his life in the cause protecting his female school mates.

  • Giles Ombi, stop blaming groups that are calling for peace and safety of the everyone, you included. It is not small groups and organisations’ responsibility to play God or angels and protect every little Susan or Mary in her village, road, school, market or even bedroom. Like the writer rightly pointed out, it is a development issue as well as a larger social issue. You seem to one of those men who contributes to the problem.

  • Elle: Please Giles Ombi is just speaking from 1-Dimension so leave him be okay?

The Point is: This poor teenage boy is a real HERO-someone who believes in doing the right thing even if that will cost more….We are actually living in the WICKED WORD, thus there will always be darkness all around and few stars to shine!!
