ANTONIO Sama (pictured) is looking forward to fulfilling his dream of becoming a pilot.
He is among a group of young people leaving for the Philippines on Friday to undergo pilot training there.
Sama, 21, thanked his parents for supporting his interest.
His dad Martin is from Bougainville and mum from Milne Bay. They operate a travel agency in Lae.
They accompanied their son to Port Moresby to prepare for his departure to the Philippines.
Mum Kay said Sama was the only son in the family of five. He completed Grade 12 in 2011.
In 2012 and 2013, he studied mechanical engineering at the University of Technology.
He failed in one of his courses in 2013 and could not continue his studies.
Mum Kay said: “He was at home all last year. We found out that he had an interest of becoming a pilot since in school.
“We saw the advertisement in The National newspaper for national pilot cadets to undergo training in Philippines and helped him apply for it.”
She said the family had a business and they would support Sama to achieve his dream.
Dad Martin is happy to see his son attend the pilot school. He has set him a very high standard of discipline to help guide him through life.
Sama said after the Philippines training, he would like to find a good job in an aviation company.
