YOUNG people have been urged to focus on being smart, wise and happy individuals with a desire to achieve PNG Vision 2050.
“Have a mindset to be an exemplary person with an untarnished perseverance in life and a desire to accomplish PNG Vision 2050 with all your convictions,” social change and mental health services principal adviser and consultant psychiatrist Uma Ambi urged.
She was the guest speaker at the 12th Marianville Secondary School graduation ceremony attended by parents, invited guests and teachers and students from the Catholic girls’ school at Bomana last Friday.
Ambi urged students to change by beginning with themselves as they leave school and go home and focus on what they could do to be good role models in their lifetime.
“The important thing is to be smart and be vigilant to address certain issues which you need to take stock of and to walk the talk and talk the talk in being healthy and productive individuals,” she said, stressing on good nutrition and sound mental, sexual and reproductive health.
“Always say no to substance abuse, unsavory activities such as cult activities and binge drinking and focus on enthusiastic education and looking for desired employment.”
Ambi also challenged students not to worry about failures, adding that low ambition was a crime.
“The first step is to start to do the right thing in the right way and the nation will tick with the same resonance.”
