Young Tausulu to attend Knights’ training camp

A YOUNG West New Britain lad, who captained the Under 19 PNG Kundus in the recent clash against the New South Wales junior side in Port Moresby, has now been linked to the Newcastle Knights club in the National Rugby League (NRL) competition in Australia.
Terence Tausulu, who turned 17 on Oct 28, had represented PNG U16 Milo side against the visiting New South Wales U16 team, will now be joining the Newcastle Knights club’s junior development camp in Australia as part of club’s development programme.
Terence father, Baldwin said he and his family were proud to see their child making it into the training camp with members of the Newcastle Knights development squad.
The training camp will start on Friday and end on  Sunday.
He will return next Tuesday and wait for his results.
The training is now been used by clubs competing in the NRL competition to recruit their players.
“If all goes well, he will be offered a three-year scholarship programme with the club starting next year,” his father said.
It was a golden opportunity presented by the Newcastle Knights and family members and friends dug into their pockets to raise K7,000 to cover the cost of the Terence’s travel to Australia tomorrow.
Tausulu said his son will be collecting his visa from the Asutralian High Commission today before jetting off to meet with the club’s training camp director Keith Onslow.
Tausulu is from Vavua village, Hoskins, West New Britain province.
Dad Baldwin is keeping his fingers cross that his son will do well to secure a contract with the club.
“We, the family members, are very proud to see our son making history in rugby league following the legacy left by Marcus Bai.
Rugby league is not our sport in the province and for us to make it into such level of competition is a bonus,” Tausulu said.
He also commended Martin Bai and family for their support to ensure the youngster attended the training camp in Australia.
