Young woman dies Kokopo road mishap

A YOUNG woman riding a bicycle died instantly when she was hit by a vehicle in Kokopo on Monday, police reported yesterday.
The woman was of mixed Milne Bay and Chimbu parentage.
Acting provincial police commander David Yapu said that 21-year-old Phoebe Elliot had just left her home at Palnakaur in Kokopo and was riding to the main road when she was hit by the vehicle.
She was pronounced dead on arrival at the St Mary’s Vunapope hospital.
The suspect, a male driver, was taken into police custody yesterday.
Police said the vehicle was not registered or insured.
Police are awaiting results from the post-mortem before laying charges.
Yapu appealed to owners and drivers to ensure that their vehicles were registered with the Motor Vehicle Insurance Ltd so they could be paid insurances for damage caused.
