IT was a brotherly affair in Sunday’s first Esi-loan-sponsored senior Port Moresby AFL match when the younger brothers took on their elders.

Ruckman Clyde Pulah and teammate Brendan Gotuno for the University Tigers went up against their elders Mathew Pulah Jr and Ezra Gotuno of the Gerehu Magpies.

It was a no-contest the younger siblings won hands down.

Tigers 12.8 (80) thrashed the Magpies 1.2 (8) in a one-sided match at Amini Park.

Clyde played a major role in the lead-out’s from the throw setting up Brendan who was only eager to nail the goals.

Ezra and Mathew despite having an equal battle up in mid-field and on the fringes of play, faced tough Tigers defenders who would not let them in.

The work rate of both teams on the field was immense in the blazing Sunday sun but taking the ball up to the forwards for the Magpies was simply hazardous with Clyde in the way.

In the other Sunday match Taurama Suns eclipsed the boys from Central.

The Suns 16.6 (106) beat Central Bombers 0.1 (1) and the tight match between the Gordon Kokofa’s and Defence Hawks saw the lizards slithering home to defeat the Hawks.

Kokofa’s 10.6 (66) beat Hawks 6.1 (37).

In Saturday’s matches, Bomana Cats sent the Gulf boys packing, Cats 18.11(119) beat Gulf Giants 3.5 (23), while Dockers bounced back from a slow start after half time to sail away from Koboni.  Dockers 9.2 (56) beat Koboni 7.3 (45).

The A Reserve matches had a mixture of results considering the big margins in the senior rank.

Bomana Cats A Reserve 5.6 (36) beat Gulf Giants 3.3 (21) and Koboni 5.5 (35) beat Giants 3.3 (21).

The AFL season is picking up momentum as the weeks go by and the quality of play is improving ensuring that AFL PNG will have a good basis to select a national squad for the year’s overseas fixtures including the international Cup in Melbourne.
