Youngsters bag awards after wins in Hagen finals

YOUNGSTERS Sinala John and Anderson James, pictured, received best-player awards after helping their teams to grand-final wins in the Mt Hagen Basketball League last weekend.
John led Giru Sanamo Souths to victory over Mix Mates 30-19 in the women’s division. Souths claimed K500 and the winners’ trophy and Mix Mates received K300.
In the men’s reserve grade, James helped Mix Mates beat Giru Sanamo Souths 30-29.
“I come from a background where my father and his family play basketball. They inspired me to take up the sport,” James said.
In the men’s division, Kawaso Souths defeated Lea Walipi Souths 37-24 to claim K500 and the winners’ trophy.
League president Esther Nokolu thanked all the eight clubs for their cooperation and support throughout the season.
“I thank sponsors Tinininga Hardware, Mitre Hardware and the Mt Hagen Urban local level government,” she said.
