DESPITE the bruises on their faces, hands, knees and elbows, the Port Moresby Schoolboys rugby league players never thought of the pain playing on a very hard and dry surface at the outside grounds of the Port Moresby rugby league.
There was more determination to win a spot in the final two squads – the Port Moresby Gold and Green – when the trials were held last Wednesday.
Port Moresby Schoolboys rugby league president Ben Kaupa was impressed with the players’ performances during the trials.
However, when the trials ended there was more head-ache for the selectors to pick the best players to make up the Port Moresby Gold and Green teams out of the four that participated.
The players selected in the Gold team are Roland John, Vincent Valahu, Jason Kandi, Samuel Suri, Norman Albert, Johnson Name, Rodney Andrew Jr, Nicholas Koma, Awi John, Tara Steven, Paul Dickson, New Waikilin, Dingi Oltai, Robert Tiri, Bonsy Topeke, Rodney Pima and Hipson Tebela.
The side will be led by coach Wayne Babona, trainer Francis Tavi and team manager John Evi.
The Port Moresby Green side: Maiona Auri, Junior Peter, Ila Ura, Steven Jerry, Erick Michael, Donny Simon, Capsy Paul, Paul Kau, Mark Tony, Jessy Puguma, Hene Gibson, Mako Tenbi, Jeff Jero, Junior Morris, Akeni Tulip, Mondo Kaman, Joshua Hebe and Emmanuel Robert.
Their coach is Aaron Henry, trainer is James Asoyabu and the team manager is Roger Banager.
The players have been urged to meet at 4.30pm today at the PRL grounds.
