Another historic moment is set to take place in the youth game during the school holiday later this month when the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) U17 Youth Festival kicks off for the first time.
The revived competition will see the country’s top youth players showcase their potential.
The festival is set to get going on June 27-30 in the northern conference which will be hosted at the PNGFA Academy in Lae. The northern conference consists of Mamose and the Highlands.
Teams interested to take part are asked to call local organising committee chairman Edris Kumbruwah on 76110795 or festival coordinator Shem Farrock on 74495804.
In the southern conference, the festival will be held at Bisini in Port Moresby from July 4-7 and teams willing to take part can call local organising committee chairman Joseph Ealedona on 74591090.
PNGFA competition manager Simon Koima said the festival was open to all schools, with the age limit set at 17 years.
“This is developing into a landmark year for youth football in Papua New Guinea and it’s fantastic to give the opportunity to our youths in both genders,” Koima said.
“This is a big step for youth football, one we wouldn’t have achieved without the strong support of our members associations and associate members.”
