Youth killed in stone-throwing incident, police probing case

A YOUTH was killed in a stoning incident by a mob near Wewak’s Haus Marasin (Area Medical Store) on June 6. Commander Supt Albert Beli said police were investigating the killing of the youth from South Wosera local level government’s Waikamoko village in Wosera-Gawi. He said the youth was part of a mob that stoned and damaged a vehicle near the Haus Marasin between 9pm and 10pm. “The youth was with a few others who attacked the drop-off vehicle during its routine runs,” Supt Beli said. “When the incident occurred, the passengers in the vehicle got out and chased the youths and the victim was caught. In retaliation, the youth was stabbed repeatedly.” According to eye witness statements, the youth was stabbed repeatedly on his back. Supt Beli said statements were still being recorded and suspects had yet to be identified.
