TWO homes were burnt down on New Year’s eve in retaliation against the death of a youth in Morobe Block at 9-Mile outside Port Moresby.
Grace Aigum and her father Aigum Kana, who lost their home, said the youth killed in a drunken brawl was of mixed Morobe and Bougainville parentage.
Aigum said the youths had been drinking homebrew.
She said they got into a quarrel and one of them, believed to be a student at a primary school, stabbed the youth in the throat with a screw-driver.
The victim was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
The student surrendered himself to police.
She said her family, although not related to the suspect, was targeted and had their home burnt down by the dead youth’s  angry relatives.
Aigum said a plane ticket and K1,200 in cash belonging to her grandmother could not be saved from the house.
Kana is asking members of the public to assist his family in cash and in kind saying they managed to retrieve only three bags of clothing. They can contact Grace on 7197 3103 or Waring Hefo on 7113 8319.
Gordon’s police station commander Henson Tokani confirmed the incident saying charges are yet to be laid on the suspected killer.
