A YOUTH was slashed to death in Bogia, Madang, on Friday, two police vehicles were damaged and public servants working at the Bogia Station ran away when neighbouring villagers clashed.
Madang police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang told The National that the youth, Glen Sambadini, was drunk when he went to the market and took fish from a mother.
Rubiang said the woman reported it to police patrolling the market and when Sambadini saw them, he tried to escape but ended up in enemies’ hands and was slashed to death.
“Police in Madang were informed and went to Bogia Station,” he said.
“The relatives of the deceased attacked the police and damaged the properties thinking that the police chased Sambadini and he was killed.”
Rubiang said when policemen from Madang arrived at Bogia, they told the fighting villagers to stop and bring the suspects who allegedly killed Sambadini.
He said no suspects were handed over to police so they left and yesterday they went back and arrested two men allegedly involved in the murder.
Two are still at large.
Rubiuang also called on the public servants who had left the station after the incident to return and resume their duties.

  • Lack of government services in all our districts will have greater negative ramifications in the long haul and what is happening everywhere in this country is letting out the frustration that have been building up for over 40 years since Independence. Government must prepare to accept the worst in the coming days. We are about to witness an assassination to occur in a short while.

  • Once called a beautiful Madang township is now a continuous Murderous crimes of sort….

  • And there you go….people always say Highlanders are the ones who swing bush knives and kill people like animals. Looks like coastals are not much different. After all we are all Melanesians. Looks like primitive and savagae blood still flows in our brains.

    • Yes, approx 80percent of murders in this country are comited either in the highlands or by highlanders,

  • This is nothing to do with Highlanders or people living in the coast. Most important thing in the mentality of the people living in every part of Papua New Guinea. We every time try to take law into our own hands. We don’t have this what so called wisdom. We have a lot of educated people with knowledge but still lack wisdom. It is better to analyse things rather than taking actions without knowing the root cause. After reading though the news can you people make sense of the root cause of the death reported and the government properties vandalized??? Stop pointing fingers.
