A GROUP of youths handed over homebrew-making equipment and marijuana plants to police last Thursday, vowing to end the illegal activities and become law-abiding citizens.
The youths from ward 15 in Wain-Erap, Nawaeb, Morobe, last Thursday pledged to help in eradicating drugs and advocating against alcohol abuse in the area. They handed over homebrew-making equipment and marijuana plants to police witnessed by church leaders and community elders at the Boana station.
Boana is preparing to host an Evangelical Lutheran church of PNG event in January.
Ward 15 councillor David Nimbongi thanked the youths for their initiative. “It is you who will make a difference in the community and lead by example,” he said.
“Let us all work together to make this place trouble-free and get ready for the major event in January next year.”
Police Inspector Adam Busil challenged the young people to keep their word.
“If you do not change and go back to what you have been doing, you must know that you will be heading for the bad. Law and order will pave the way to good things to happen in your lives.”
Boana bishop Rev Sokeka Tawaman thanked the young people for what they had done.
“Let us make it the last time for young people to engage in these activities,” he said.
