TWO youths are recovering in hospital after they were hit by a taxi on Saturday on the Magi Highway in Central, according to police.

The youths from Rigo village were returning from a rugby match at a nearby village.

Central police commander Chief Insp Laimo Asi said the youths’ relatives later attacked the taxi driver and another occupant. Two others fled.

He said the situation was tense with relatives of the taxi driver from the highlands region and the villagers planning to attack each other again.

“I am warning the two groups not to take matters into their own hands and let police conduct investigations.

“Retaliation is not warranted. Since Monday, the Central task force have been tasked to monitor the situation and anybody wanting to act above the law will be dealt with.”
