YOUTHS surrendered home-made guns, ammunitions and homebrew-making equipment at Ward Five in the Lae urban local level government area of Bumayong on Sunday.
Lae MP John Rosso said it was timely and a positive way forward.
Rosso, who is also the Minister for Lands and Physical Planning promised to support them to become better citizens.
The surrendering event themed “a single step is the beginning of a thousand miles” saw youths coming up with the idea to be free in the communities they lived in and engage in meaningful activities for a better future.
The youths said after the surrender that police should not take advantage of them or pick on them as they had reconciled and wanted to live a better life.
“It is the first step that you take and the choices that you make in life today will determine your future,” he told the youths.
Rosso told their parents to take responsibility of their children and support them in any way they took to improve themselves.
“Don’t try to blame others for anything that you do wrong,” he said.
