UNEMPLOYED youths in Wampar, Huon Gulf, have been warned to stay away from criminal activities and embrace changes in their lives.
Youths in Ricefield at the Sepik Tais settlement near Ten-Mile surrendered their home brew kits to Lae community police last week.
Wampar local level government president Michael Puane, Lae community policing officer Sergeant Alois Gabour and community leader Ben Gawi were present to witness the youths surrendered their home brew apparatus.
“Steam production will contribute to the increasing lawlessness and it is wise that you have turned away from this illegal practice,” Gawi said.
“As settlers in Wampar, we must live in harmony with locals. With big changes coming in the LLG, job opportunities will be made available,” Gawi told the youths.
“Wampar LLG is at the heart of many developments and we will try to tap into them,” Puane said.
Gabour said the youths must prepare to take advantage of the developments opportunities happening along the corridors of Lae city.
As part of the development of Lae city, the K500m four-lane highway project between Lae and Nadzab airport will run through Wampar. The existing highway will be widened.
Already, a number of traditional land along the highway have been taken up by businesses.
