Youths undergoing yoga teacher training

Fifty-three youths are undergoing intensive training on ethics, morals and science of yoga to become its teachers in Port Moresby.
After the training, they will be assessed on their teaching skills and awarded with a teaching certificate if they pass it.
The moral values taught include non-violence, truthfulness, non-stealing, moderation, non-coveting, purity, contentment, austerity, study of the self and dedication to God for the highest good of all.
The teachers’ conduct based on the values mentioned is part of the emphasis of the teacher training.
This is part of the National Capital District Commission’s active city development programme’s initiatives to change bad attitude and behaviour of its young people.
They can become more-responsible, respectable and resourceful citizens.
Most of the students are from broken families, unemployed, former inmates, bag snatchers, school dropouts, street boys, drug addicts, marginalised, at risk and disadvantaged.
According to master yoga trainer and manager of the active city development programme, Fazilah Bazari, the trainees were selected from more than 600 youths who attended yoga, acrobatics and other creative movements at the Taurama Aquatic Centre.
