Youths want Mt Hagen to stay clean

CATHOLIC youths in Mt Hagen have promised to stop chewing betel nut, spitting and littering in the city.
More than 300 students and young adults admitted that betel nut chewing was bad and contributed to littering.
The youths are from the eight parishes of the Mt Hagen deanery which includes Rulna, Mabuga, Kinambka, Kumdi, Rebiamul, St Paul’s, Mun and Baisu.
They gathered at Rebiamul for a three-day youth camp which ended on Friday.
Church elder Marcus Malt challenged them to live in a clean environment.
“Catholics and Lutherans are the main ones responsible for betel nut spittle and filth in Mt Hagen,” Malt said.
“You, as young Catholic faithfuls, have to change and be responsible citizens.
“This is an unhealthy habit. Just quit. God does not smoke, chew betel nut or drink beer.
“We are created in God’s own image. He is holy so we must be holy and clean in his eyes.”
