MINISTER for Fisheries and Tewae-Siassi MP Mao Zeming invested K16 million to build three jetties along the Tewae-Siassi coastline for the people to access services.

Zeming invested for the jetties at Sialum (K4 million), Wasu (K6 million) and Gasam (K6 million) as part of infrastructural development for the district to complement the purchase of mv Lady Zeming.

Zeming accompanied by Siassi council president Joel Johnson, arrived to a rousing welcome from three singsing groups to launch the Gasam jetty that will cater for Northern tip communities of Umboi Island as far as Lokep Island.

Another K2 million was allocated for the revitalisation of the Gizarum coconut plantation and the cocoa production for people to make a living using the jetty and the vessel to transport their produce to markets.

Zeming said the Tewae-Siassi district development authority approved K3 million from the logging loyalty to build communication systems for the neglected island communities. Due to law and order problems, Zeming spent K700,000 to build 16 men’s police dormitories at Sialum and three houses each at interior Semo (Sialum) and Wasu.

He said that every coastline community that initiated agricultural and seafood activities wouldhave a jetty to enable mv Lady Zeming load their produce.

Zeming announced to more than a 1000 people that the district authority had approved the purchase of another new vessel to cater for passengers alone.

Chief executive officer Billy Amakua thanked Zeming for investing K1.1 million to improve the standard of facilities at Siassi High School, realising its academic value.

Amakua said that changes did not occur overnight as it had a procurement process.
