ZIFASING villagers in the Wampar local level government, Huon-Gulf, have backed minor premiers Lae Snaxe Tigers to win Sunday’s Digicel Cup grand final against the Hela Wigmen.
The support came after the team visited the Zifasing Primary School to do some donations on Thursday.
It’s was a first time for the school and the village to receive a high-profile sporting team representing the province in rugby league.
The visit was made possible by school sports master and former Lae Bomber Isikiel Agiro.
The Tigers presented to the village and school 35 cartons of Snax noodles, Snax biscuits (30 cartons each), umbrellas (10 each), rugby balls (10), soccer balls (eight each), shirts and singlets (25 each).
Councillor Jose Isaiah said it’s was a special day for the community to meet the Tigers.
“On behalf of the students and community, we’ll support you in the grand final,” he said.
“Bring the Cup to the province as you are the first (high-profile) sporting team in Morobe to visit us.”
Team official Oscar Tonga thanked the school for the invitation.
He also commended the village rugby league club, Zif Waraiap, for establishing ties with the Tigers.
“It’s all about discipline. Listen to your coach and team management. Be committed to your training and you’ll achieve your goals,” Tonga said.
“The Tigers qualified for the grand final off the back of player discipline.
We ask the students to listen to their parents and teachers.
“When students do things right, they will excel in their (life) and education.”
