POLICE from zone three in the National Capital District (NCD) Metropolitan Command will now have a new commander.
NCD Met Supt Perou N’dranou, who announced the changes during a parade at the Airport Police Station yesterday, said the new zone three commander was Snr Insp Andrew Tovere.
The former commander, Chief Insp Ipai Opai, will take up his new posting as Central police commander.
Supt N’dranou urged policemen to work with the new commander like they had done with the out-going commander.
He said he wanted all the non-commissioned officers (NCO) to perform and also wanted to see command and control from the NCOs down to all the policemen in their respective shifts.
He said ranks came with responsibility and NCOs should perform.
Chief Insp Opai urged the policemen from all three police stations within the command to work closely with the new commander and maintain discipline while performing their duties.
He said the zone three command faced a lot of challenges because of the increasing number of settlements and the growing population.
He said it was the biggest command in the NCD metro command covering areas from Gordon all the way up to 5-Mile. Chief Insp Opai said while working with policemen at that command, he had seen that they had done many successful operations like the peaceful Christmas and New Year operations and other operations. He said he believed they would continue to work with the new commander because they were all trained policemen.
Snr Insp Tovere also told the policemen at the parade that he would be working with them and he did not want to see ill-disciplined officers.
“We all joined the police because we wanted to serve our country by enforcing the law,” he said.
